Boogie Down Productions
"Crack Attack"
- circa 1985. This is some pre Criminal Minded BDP. Pretty much a don't smoke crack PSA. The sound is very mid 80's and you can tell that they hadn't found that boom bap yet.
"Flavor 4 The Non Believers" (demo version)
- circa 1992. Before Havoc and P were known as Mobb Deep they were a couple of teenaged rappers known as Poetical Profits. The world first heard of them via the Source's Unsigned Hype column and this is the demo track that was quoted in that feature. The song would later see the light of day on their debut LP Juvenile Hell.
"Raw" (demo version)
- circa 1986/87. Easily one of my favorite songs of all time. The Kool Genius of Rap goes in on this one and destroys the beat. I heard that G. Rap went off because Kane had a girl in the studio and he wanted to show him up. Kane and G. Rap had a friendly rivalry when it came to their rhymes. They were homies but always wanted to one up each other. This is one of those times.
"Wrong Side Of The Tracks" (demo version)
- circa 1993/94. This track was the biggest thing for a second back in '94 but for some reason The Artifacts never blew up like other groups from that era (ie. Wu-Tang, Black Moon). The beat is totally different than the original but the raps are mostly the same.
"Audience Pleasers"
- circa 1989. This is from the demo tape that got OK signed to Hollywood Basics, but for some reason it took another two years for them to release any music on the label. This joint was produced by Paul C who was murdered the same year.
